Friday, October 11, 2002Interesting.Someone did a search on yahoo for "whos really behind chatrooms", but restricted their search to this weblog. I don't really know what to make of that. Do they think it's not really just a small room run for the amusement of the few regular chatters there, but some corporate thing? Perhaps they're wondering if I'm some puppet channel owner, and the real control is held by someone else? Maybe they're just confused by the involvement of dalnet, I don't know. The answer to their query though is very simple. The room is based on dalnet, simply because it's free, relatively reliable *cough*, and has the control features I require to make the room workable. The room itself is owned by myself, and I maintain full control. I can assign or unassign other room moderators, who along with me can set topics, temp ban annoying people, and kick them out, while I have the sole ability to permenantly ban people. So there it is. The place is set up purely for fun, with no nasty business or corporate involvement behind the scenes, and no money making scams that'll catch casual visitors unawares. Looking at this person's search phrase from a wider perspective, it actually strikes me as an silly question. There are millions of chatrooms out there. Some, like mine, are set up purely for fun, with their own private goals, while others are corporate, featuring advertising, and various incentives to get people to part with their cash. At the end of the day though, they're all different, and I really do wonder what this person expected to find. Labels: chatrooms Steve 11:53 PM [+]
