Tuesday, October 29, 2002This one's for the amusement of my american readers, 'cause it's quite likely you won't have seen one of these.Do you drive? Is your car some huge great thing? Like... can you fit a family of fifteen in your car, with room to spare? Do you need an entire empty field to park at the end of the day? Does doing a quick U-turn become an exercise in stopping the traffic on a public highway for 15 minutes? Do you have your own petrol tanker following behind you for when your 500 gallon fuel tank runs dry? *Chuckles* You need one of these.... ![]() This is my sister's car, and I love it. If I actually drove, this is the kind of car I'd like. It's the Smart, made by the Micro Car Company... though most of the manufacturing is by Mercedes. It'll turn on a sixpence, is VERY economical, with a 600cc (yes cc, not litres) three cylinder turbo engine, and you can throw it around like a lunatic. Top speed is limited to 86mph, but the acceleration is very much on the fun side. I was amazed on one occasion, as pulling away from a set of traffic lights, my sister out-dragged a Porche 911. He must've screwed up on the clutch of something... but she left him for dead. Needless to say, 100 yeards down the road, he came flying past us, but we'd already reached the next set of lights. I guess it's not something you could take seriously if you lived out in the desert, or did lots of interstate driving... to quote Brian in New York, "It's not a real car unless you can kill someone with it", but for getting round a busy town, it's unbeatable.
