A cure for boredom was duly found.
I managed to log into streaming Invader Zim on winamp, and duly sat up all night and into this morning watching, till I could't stay awake any longer.
I dunno what it is about Invader Zim that appeals to me, but there's something about it that pushes all the right buttons. The humour is so cranky, and the pace so fast. Take Futurama, MegaBabies and Ren and Stimpy, splice them all together and add a large dose of weird drugs and you might be getting close.
And the one liners.... nothing comes remotely close.
"Don't worry... you have a squid for a brain! It's perfectly normal."
"Hey! I'm speaking out loud to myself in an unnatural manner! .... Oh well."
"It's got chicken legs" ..."Yes! It also has the latest generation cloacking technology"
Love it.

Bleh!
Serious boredom.
I dunno why but nothing seems to hold my interest this week. After 1am when uktv history closes down the tv becomes amazingly dull, I don't feel like playing video games, and I just can't be asked to join in with the bickering and sillyness in irc chat.
None of this would matter if I was awake in the day, but I'm in full-on night mode at the mo, so that ammounts to long hours of serious tedium.
What I really need to do is get the new pc I've been meaning to buy so I can start work on some new music, but I'm holding off on any serious spending in preparation for certain other events that I won't go into here.

Well that was cool. I found the Amiga In A Box project... basically a fully preconfigured Amiga OS with a load of extras thrown in, including Amirc and a whole load of other bits I couldn't quite make work.
My real Amiga that sits up in the loft has a 50mhz 68060 cpu in it... the fastest 68xxx series amiga you could get. This laptop now thinks its an amiga almost 10 times as fast.
I know... it's an entirely pointless exercise, as I can't really do anything on the emulated amiga that I can't do on this windoze laptop.... it's just nice to have it.
Nostalgia's a funny thing.

Last night I was on a serious mission of geekdom.
After my full format and windoze reinstall, I've not really gotten round to putting a lot of the software I had back onto my hard drive, mainly coz I'm still planning to get a new pc soon, so there's not much point.
Still... I found myself missing a few emulators, so went to work installing Sega Genesis, Saturn, Commodore Amiga, and Mame emulators. After playing Sonic The Hedgehog for a bit, I went on the hunt for Amiga files.
Took ages to get the operating system, but once that was done, I found this version of the software much more stable than the old one I had... which was nice.
The thing that bugged me though... and this has always been a grumbling point for all serious amiga users... there's masses of game files out there, all dead easy to find, but serious software? Apart from freeware and shareware, I had a nightmare finding anything remotely useful at all. Couldn't find any useful net software, which was really annoying, coz I have a real urge to use Amirc again... *still* the best irc program on the planet.

Aha!!!
So, LaunchCast shut me out of my station part way into the month for exceeding my monthly allotment of tunes, something I've mentioned once or twice before. However...
I've found a way around it (and no, paying for launchcast plus isnt an option, coz you have to be in the US or Canada for that).
I clicked the link to LaunchCast on YahooUK, something I'd never noticed before, where I found my station, with all my usual settings and selections, but with a nice fresh monthly quota just waiting to be used up. Wahay! When that runs out, I'll move on to one of the other national Yahoo sites and try the same thing there.

Finally got round to seeing Spiderman 2 tonight.
It *is* as good as the reviews said, and it *is* better than the first one... which was great. What's reassuring is it's still sticking to the basic principles laid out by the comics, with only very minor discrepancies.
Great script, very clever multilayerd subplots, fantastic effects, amazing fight scenes, and brilliant humour.
As a spidey fan since I was a kid, I couldn't ask for more. Except maybe Venom and Carnage.

Ever played a video game that cheats?
I don't mean being just unfairly difficult, but actually breaking the rules of the game to give itself an unfair advantage.
So there I am in a 70s bike series, pootling around on an ancient Suzuki air cooled 750 two stroke triple, and what does one of the computer riders have? Only a bloody 1981 Ducati 900SS.
I won the race anyway, coz I'm just that damned good (and dirty... I ran him into the barriers so he fell off), and next race he's only riding a 1986 Yamaha FZR 1000.
Bloody cheat!

Ahh... video game time.
I've always had a soft spot for motorbikes. Used to ride them in my teens, albeit just small ones, but still. So when I spotted RS II Riding Spirits, a game that's supposed to be Gran Turismo on bikes, I figured I'd give ot a go.
Not bad. Not bad at all.
Okay, it's not remotely as slick as Gran Turismo, and just like real bikes, if you don't know what you're doing, it's a bitch to keep the things pointing in the right direction, but even so... it's pretty good fun.

Those who aren't irc addicts or general internet chat geeks may not appreciate this site, but for those who are, bash.org is absolutely hysterical. It's got some of the funniest quotes from irc chat I've ever seen.

Well it's about bloody time.
Tripod's been screwing around, so my blog's been down for at least a couple of days.
Mind you, now it's back up again, I don't think I have a single thing to blog about.
I've rather woken up like a bear with a sore head today. Too much sleep, lousy weather and no milk for my coffee... so I'm feeling kinda grumpy right now.

There's this 'widget' I keep looking at it town called an XDA II, basically a cross between a PDA and a mobile phone.
Now I have absolutely no use for a PDA and not much more for a mobile phone either... but both together in one self contained package... it makes the PocketIRC software I saw online a few days ago look very appealing.
I know, I know... what possible reason is there to want to sit in a field and chat on irc? It's the absolute ultimate in geekiness, but... I love the idea.
It can wait though, for now. There's other more worthy things to spend my money on in the pipeline.

Ears have stopped ringing, website's almost completely updated, with just a few obscure pages left to sort... and... er... I think thats it.
Brief, but positive :-)

Argh!
I have an infurriating ringing in my ears.
Actually, I'm not sure if it's in my ears on in my head... it's like a very low frequency hum that sometimes feels like it's coming from the back of the base of my neck. All I can think is it may be some inner or middle ear infection, coz loud or low frequency sounds seem to be extra loud and distorted.
Whatever it is, It's driving me nuts, and sleep isn't getting rid of it.

Ahhh... google ads are coming along nicely on my main website.
Cant say there's any significant income from them so far, since its only been a couple of days, but I've now got them looking very funky and fitting in with the design of the site... not to mention relevant to the pages they appear on.
They're pay-per-click as opposed to pay-per-sale, so... if you're bored and have nothing better to do, why not go click a few? It all helps me pay the bills :-)

There are a few benefits to doing a full reinstall. Despite the inconvenience and annoyance at having lost a whole lot of software and collected files, it's forced me to update certain pieces of software that I otherwise wouldn't have bothered with... and some of these turn out to be real improvements.
Most notable of these is the laterst version of Yahoo Messenger. I didn't know till today that the newest version includes LaunchCast Radio built in... Wahay! No more farting around logging into the site.
Anyone who's got me on their friends list as Ambiguous_Intentions may wish to update their list, as I've now entirely abandoned that ID and am now using Steve_Benway ... since that's the ID I use for LaunchCast.
It was rather amusing when I logged into messenger on that ID for the first time, as I had a ton of offline messages left by people who'd been listening to my LaunchCast station. Seems it's rather popular.

Argh!
Stupid crappy Windows.
My pc had a barny a few hours ago and totally refused to connect to the net. It couldn't find any of my network connections... no dsl, no dialup, no nothing. Whenever I tried to go anywhere near the settings for these it simply locked up.
Drastic measures were called for as everything else I tried failed dismally, so I've just spent 4 or 5 hours doing a full windoze reinstall.
I backed up all the critical stuff I could remember onto my other partition, but god knows how much stuff I'll realise I needed and have lost forever.
Bollox!

Bleh... and entirely wasted day (er... night actually).
I went to bed around 6am and didn't wake up till 6pm with a thumping headache.
Since then I've just lounged around watching tv with a numb brain. Couldn't be bothered to chat... I'm rather sick of that place at the moment.

More fighting today, but I think this time a few boundaries have been set, so we'll see what happens.

Elsewhere, my main website was approved for Google's AdSense advertising affiliate scheme, so I'll be setting that up soon and we'll see how it goes.
It's a very clever system as google picks ads that are relevant to the particular pages they appear on, saving webmasters a lot of trouble and maximising potential oncome.
It'd certainly be nice if it proves to be effective.

Is it a full moon?
The things I've witnessed today... the outright stupidity, arrogance and aggression have been just unbelievable.
So... bugger that. I'm just gonna sit back and watch the classic 80s vampire flick Near Dark. I've been looking for it for ages, and finally found it this afternoon.
