Friday, August 26, 2005So here we are again, and it's time for the big news report.A few weeks ago my main source of income completely dried up, and I was left in a rather dire position. Finding work would prove problematic at best, as I have no recent work record and virtually *all* work in Milton Keynes is via agencies. Having no recent work record, obviously the agencies won't touch me. I could probably have signed on to claim housing benefits and job seekers allowance, but this too would have been problematic, and apart from the fact that I'd hate to do that, it really wouldn't have been enough to live on. So, after some thought, Andrea suggested an alternative plan. Why didn't I move up north to live with her, and go to college and then university? I guess I'm not gonna go into why this was a dramatic suggestion that was rather scary for both Andrea and myself, so just take it as read that it was. But anyway... cutting a very long story short and missing out almost all of the details, I now live in Worksop in Nottinghamshire, just south of Sheffield. I'm enrolling at North Notts College in a week's time, and pretty much everything is going hunky-dory. There is one thing that hasn't gone to plan, and that's Stupid. We brought him up here a couple of weeks before I moved, to give him time to get used to the place, but the devious little git managed to get out and then did a runner. After hunting all round the local area for over a week, ads and photos have been placed in local shops and papers, and we're getting some calls from people who think they've seen him, but so far they've all been false alarms, the wrong cat, etc, I live in hope. Hunting for Stupid and visiting college aside, most of my time at the moment is being spent unpacking. Almost everything is being put up into the loft, which I'd already boarded out... and it's making a very cosey little den, somewhere to retreat when I need to be alone. Surprisingly though, even in a house full of very bold characters, I'm finding living among other people much easier than I'd expected. That'll be down to them all being great people, I think. Right then. Back to sorting stuff out. Steve 3:10 PM [+]
