Thursday, March 08, 2007Well well....The reponse to my previous post was pretty much as expected. Some people agreed, some didn't. However, what followed is a different matter. To cut a long story short, it's now perfectly clear to me that just too many of the ops consider double standards to be perfectly reasonable if it means protecting their friends, rather than seeing fair and just treatment for all. Obviously, I have resigned my ops. Not because I can't take the abuse... I most certainly can, but because I wish to take no part in the the double standards that prevail. What a very sad state of affairs. Additional: I wasn't going to go into detail, but have been asked what exactly this was about. Without posting logs, and naming names... one op got deopped for allegedly not following a direct instruction from a manager. If the allegations are true, then fair enough. Then other ops were seen to ignore the exact same instruction. I reported this, as it seems very wrong to me that instructions or rules should only apply to some, and not others. 3 ops were deopped. This decision was later overturned, the 3 ops were reinstated, while the first op remains deopped permenantly. No further posts on the matter will appear here, as now decisions have been made by the channel owner, it would be counter productive to drag the matter on. Comments are moderated... so while people wishing to comment may do so, even if I disagree with them, personal abuse or insults will not be published. Steve 1:46 AM [+]

So in one post you complain the channel rules "aren't being enforced in the spirit that they are intended" but then complain, using 2nd hand evidence, the rules were not being enforced according to the letter of the law, so to speak. Double standards?
No-one likes a tell-tale. You should have learned that at school. As for double-standards... it seems OK when it suits you.
There is no double standard in what I am saying.
The rules are well defined. In my first post, I complain that they are not being enforced as intended... and that is correct... they were/are being distorted, or simply made up. In this post, it is simply that they have not been enforced at all, and then re-writted completely, to suit those who wish to protect their friends who broke them. Also, there is no second hand evidence. It is not only stored on a computer in this house, but on the official channel logs. I'm well aware that no-one likes a tell tale. But I also believe in standing up for what is right. To my mind, it is wrong to do nothing, when you see an injustice, but do nothing about it, just because the majority won't like it. As it stands... you and your friends have won... so enjoy it.
A few other things you may wish to think about...

I had the guts to stand up and say "It was me", rather than hide behind a veil of anonimity. I didn't have to do that, but I believe all people should be held to account for their own actions. I'm aware that many consider I have lied about how I came by the evidence. Seriously... if I was going to lie, I could simply have said "I was afk and scrolled back leter", or similar... but as the channel logs prove, I was not in the channel, due to a netsplit. I believe people assume that I went all out to have all three people who were deopped.. deopped. The truth of the matter is, I quoted one line, said by one person, and that three people were deopped proves that at least one of the channel managers has the integrity to examine exactly what happened, and act accordingly, even though some or all of those implicated were her friends. I have nothing but respect for that kind of integrity. Also, I was aware that one of the people implicated was someone I consider a friend. I'm sure she no longer considers me one, and obviously, I can't blame her for that, but she has my absolute respect for not falling on me with personal abuse like so many others did. What this shows though, and it is the whole point of what I did... everyone should be accountable for their actions... not just the people we don't like. I've no doubt that I'm wasting my time here, as it seems that most if not all of those concerned, either don't understand, or choose to ignore the truth of what has happened. What is proved though, and I'm sure no-one will disagree with this... the values I hold dear, and the values of those who disagree with me are clearly different. Since I am in the minority, there is no place for me as an op in the channel, as to not resign would just cause more bad feelings, and serve no purpose.
